Papers are important for this school as well on the interview, the CIT coordinator said that less paperwork is good. Inconsistencies on the manual processes have been uncovered throughout the data gathering process. Since the employees themselves want to maximize their time, a good enrolment system could take care of the Jobs that would take time for them. While Magmata Science’s current enrolment is still not that efficient compared to the others, the developers are planning to create a system for the school. The developers are expecting a gradual rise of the student’s population for upcoming years that is why the proponents will develop a mixture of ADS (Decision Support System) and MIS (Management Information System) namely an â€Å"Intelligent Enrollment System†. This is a computerized system with a decision support function that can remove the inconsistencies of the current manual process. Since people in the school wanted to hasten the Jobs like sectioning, report creation etc. This system will do it for them with minimal management. The applicant for Grade VII must be a member of the 2014 graduating class from any public and government recognized private elementary school; Have a grade of at least 85% in Science, Mathematics and English subjects and at least 83% in all other subjects for the first and second grading periods of the rent school year 2013-2014. Grades obtained in the succeeding grading periods (3rd and 4th) lower than the grade requirements will be a ground for disqualification. Be in good health and be of good moral character. The information will be disseminated to the guidance office and the registrar’s office where the information will be stored. After all the enrollment processes, the enrolled students shall receive a certificate of enrolment. They don’t have to pay since the government pays for their studies. The students who fail to come on the prescribe enrollment period will be scheduled to enroll after the last day of 4th year enrollees. Transferees must be a student in science high schools only, otherwise they will not be eligible to enroll. School date is absolute so anyone cannot transfer to the school if the school year already started even if they came from another science high school. GRADING PROCESS At the end of every grading period, the teachers will pass the final grades of the student to the respective advisers. There will be a watch list for those who fails to meet the standard grading requirement, which is a AWG of 85%. Inaccurate and unreliable transferring of student information to the registrar During the general encoding, the BEES sets up 6 computers in the BEES office for the encoding of the student’s information. The students encode it in MS Excel spreadsheet. The problem with this is that the computers are not networked and so the details are all separated. What the CIT head does is to copy and paste the information encoded by the student to the separate file that she made. This process proved to be tedious and unreliable so she double checks it and takes more time. Inefficiency in handling student entry in general encoding During general encoding, the student enters his/her information in an MS Excel spreadsheet. New students doesn’t have a problem since they still don’t have existing information. However a problem arises when the old students do the general encoding. Because the school stores the general information in hardcopy documents, their existing data isn’t available for editing in excel, so every year that they attend general encoding, they enter personal information from scratch again. This proved to be inefficient because it takes more time. The problem in scheduling the teachers’ class load The scheduling of the teacher’s time is done by the department head. Schedules are done during summer by plotting the schedules on paper or through excel worksheets. That means they will know their exam score on the same day the exam is taken. It will ultimately save time for the school to check the exam papers. Create a networked database connection between the PC’s to handle separated data. To systematically connect the data in the six (6) PC’s, the proponents will create a networked database to store data on only one (1) data storage so that the CIT coordinator will not be having a hard time in collecting information. The same is the case with the aspect of superiority. In order to review my superiority in workplace communication, three questions have been selected randomly and scored. Herein lays the effectiveness of strategic approach, which I applied to the tasks and responsibilities. This is reflected from the consideration of my scores in the parameter of strategy. This strategic vision assured me that this approach would certainly lead me to the achievement of positive results. One of an important aspect in Part 1 is the scores. Subtotal of the scores in evaluation, control, strategy, neutrality, superiority and certainty is 38, which is towards high in the likert scale. The range considered for the defensive communication is 18-40. Therefore, achievement of 38 score means that I am highly defensive in terms of defending myself from the slangs and illegal accusations of my colleague in the workplace. This is necessary in terms of securing my self-respect. Viewing it from the other perspective, this defense is flexible enough to destroy the stability in my relationship with my colleagues. Turning the attention to Part 2, it consists of the scores of the supportive communication. In this, the first parameter is provisionalism. This reflects my attitudes towards the provision of the basic facilities to the employees. Here, three questions have been selected, whose scores are 4. Therefore, their subtotal is 12. In case of the parameter of spontaneity, the questions selected have been ranked as 4, which subtotals to 12. Similarity in the scores of provisionalism and spontaneity means that I emerge successful in providing my employees with the basic facilities, which they need for the exposure of better performance. The next two parameters considered for the ranking are empathy and problem orientation. In both the cases, three questions have been randomly selected and scored. Like provisionalism, the scores of empathy is 12, as the individual score of the selected questions are 4. However, as one of the questions in problem orientation is 4, there the total score of the three questions selection is 10. Disproportionate scores of these aspects highlight the fact that I fail to empathise with the problems of my colleagues or subordinates. Along with this, one of the other pairs in this context is equality and description. The scores for this pairs is exactly the opposite of empathy and orientation. The subtotal of all the parameters in this part is 68, which is towards high in the likert scale. Although it is not that high, but the score aligns with the fact that in terms of communication, I am supportive enough for enhancing the communication in my workplace. Viewing it from the other perspective, the supportive communication is also the transition from neutral to defensive. Evaluation is the result of this transformation from neutral to defensive. Countering this, neutral projects my attitude towards the workplace communication and defensive reflects my application of oriental approach towards the upgradation of the standards and quality of communication in the workplace. Types of defensive and supportive communication in the workplace Communication in my workplace is strategic, which helps me in prioritizing the business activities. Strategic vision towards the execution of the business activities helps me to defend myself and my team members from the unwanted and illegal instances. One of the mentionable facts, which I can point here is the compliance to the legislative standards of communication. This compliance is an added advantage for me in terms of regulating the performance of the employees in terms of the communication, which they practice while on duty (Keyton et al., 2013). This regulation is also assistance in terms of delving deep into the neutrality of the employees, which they expose in response to the circumstances in which they are placed. Above all, evaluation of the undertaken steps gives me the assurance regarding reaching to the topmost position in the market in spite of the competitive ambience. Out of all these, I think evaluation, regulation and superiority are important for defensive communication. I have placed evaluation in the first position because this act makes me aware of the drawbacks in the workplace communication. Viewing it from the other perspective, evaluation is one of the most effective means for defending my company from crisis. Countering this, evaluation supports me in terms of upgrading the linguistic skills and abilities of the employees (Zhang Venkatesh, 2013). Along with this, evaluation would also make me aware of the irregularities committed by the employees in terms of executing the allocated duties and responsibilities. This regulation helps me in exposing my seniority and superiority towards the employees, which is necessary in terms of moulding them according to the requirements of the company. Countering this, the above paragraphs reflect the lack of oriental approach. Oriental approach would be the selection of the three aspects and their scores for evaluation of the communication practiced in my workplace. From part 1, evaluation, control and strategy can be selected. Attachment of the responses of my manager in this context, adds the score of the strategy. This is because, face to face conversation with manager enhances my preconceived knowledge, skills and expertise regarding the workplace communication (Banerjee, Adhikari Nigam, 2016). Along with this, strategic vision towards conducting an interview with the manager reflects my attempt towards reviewing the effectiveness of the communication tools used in my workplace. Setting the questions adds the score of the parameter of control, as here I had to adhere to the ethical considerations while execution of the process of data collection. From part 2, provisionalism, spontaneity and problem orientation can be taken. The score for problem orientation is 10 and the other two aspects has been ranked as 12. Taking the response of the manager in this context reflects my attempt towards achieving effective resolutions for the potential issues, which is stalling the productivity of the workplace (Ortiz, 2015). Interviewing the manager can be considered as my spontaneous approach towards providing languages classes to the employees for upgrading their linguistic skills and abilities. Delving deep into the aspect of provisionalism, the score can be improved by indulging in contracts, deals and trades with the suppliers for adding to the stock of the resources. Spontaneity would be initiating plans according to the response of the managers. Rationality in the plans would help me create a positive image about me in the minds of the managers. Methods to transfer defensive communication with supportive communication Defensive communication is needed in terms of defending oneself from the language, which is applied in the workplace. This is generated from the conflicts, discriminations and harassments between the employees (Mizrahi, 2015). If these issues raise upto the extent of courtly intervention, then also the defensive measures are needed in order to maintain the self-respect of the personnel. However, this defense does not always bear positive fruits. The personnel need to develop methods for supporting each other for making effective use of the communication tools. Training can be one of the ways in which the preconceived knowledge, skills and expertise can be enriched. Taking post-training tests can help the managers to assess the capability of the employees in terms of making practical applications of the learnt skills in the workplace operations (Sun et al., 2015). If the personnel emerge successful in training the employees to ensuring the wellbeing of others, it adds value to the asp ect of training. Within the training, counseling sessions can be included, which would help the counselors to delve deep into the minds of the employees. Hiring skilled and qualified experts for counseling would result in convincing the employees regarding omission of the defensive attitude. Rationality is a crucial element in this direction, as it is the matter of self-respect and individuality of the employees. One wrong step would attach an interrogative parameter to their societal existence (McNaughton Chapple, 2013). Literature review Social exchange theory possesses direct relationship with the requirements of the assignment. The word exchange can be related with the aspect of communication, as the employees exchange their needs to their colleagues by communication. The aspect of interaction reflects the socialization of communication. The major drive behind this is the social media, which results in the interaction between the internal and external environment. Attachment of the supportive communication in this context reflects the attempt of the personnel to enhance the parameter of corporate social responsibility (Smith Brunner, 2017). Countering this, the aspects of slangs and the utilization of unacceptable words in the workplace brings social learning theory into the discussion. The word training can be associated with the training, which possesses flexibility to enrich the preconceived knowledge of the employees regarding the code of conduct, which they are supposed to maintain in the workplace. Group discussions conjoin the words exchange and learning from both the considered theories. This is because discussion results in the transfer of views from one employee to the other (Bonaccio et al., 2016). This is a cycle, which continues and in this process the employees learns the code of ethics and behavior in terms of communication in the workplace. This nullifies the aspect of lack of knowledge in case of the employees. Organizing frequent open forums helps the managers to get an insight into the minds of the employees in terms of communication with their colleagues. Along with this, open forums and discussions enhances the aspect of cultural diversity among the employees. This enhancement broadens the scope and arena of the workplace (Skovholt, Grnning Kankaanranta, 2014). Conclusion: Therefore, it can be concluded from the above discourse that the defensive and supportive communication play vital role in determining the organizational workplace communication. The above discourse highlights my communicative scores in terms of the defensive and supportive communication wherein the scores for both the aspect indicates high possession in the Likert scale. On the other hand, the different examples of the defensive and supportive communicational aspects present the most important types of the same in terms of the enhancing the workplace communication. In the discussion, I am able to present and specify the different types of the communication types on the basis of my experience and the result out of the same. This is because detail explanation of the achievement of my scores in communications has enabled me to explain and choose different types of communication. Apart from that the transformation of the defensive communication into the supportive communication has been presented in the assignment. In the transformation process, the training and counselling has been given priority in terms of influencing the employees in the most effective way. Along with this, I have presented a short literature review for better and clear understanding of the concept of workplace communication. The review of the literature also aligns the social context with the communication for depicting the importance of proper and effective communication. In short, the overall report on the workplace communication presents various types of same with the detail explanation of all the aspects attached to it. Recommendation: It is noteworthy that the above report has some limitations related to the workplace communication, which have been reflected in the same. For example, the organization I am working for is lacking proper training and evaluation process for developing the communication skills of the employees. However, as discussed the self-assessment is one of the finest ways to develop the communication, but it has been found that there is no system of taking open forum programs for the overall improvement of the staffs in terms of their specific issues. On the other hand, the conflicts among the employees have been frequent which needs to be resolved. Therefore, the recommendation is based on the organizational failure in establishing proper communication system within the workplace. This section implies that the organization must conducts programs on the regular basis to identify and resolve the communication issues within the employees which are resulting into conflicts and to resolve the same. T he frequent open-forum meeting in the workplace to certain extent will enable the all the employees to self-assess their capabilities and weakness. On the other hand, it is also suggested that not only the esteemed but also all the organization must arrange training and counseling programs for the employees in order to enhance the basic and supportive communication competencies which will further lead them to maintain enriched workplace culture. Romans tied events to consular years. Two men were elected every year to serve in the office of consul. Roman historians said that a certain event took place in the year that Marcus Such and Such and Publius So and So were consuls. Historians who lived in monarchies could date events to regnal years, that is, a time tied to the reign of a particular king. This battle was fought in the third year of King So and So. Some Jewish and Christian writers referred to creation years. Various scholars believed they could date the creation of the earth from clues in the Bible. One commonly accepted date was October 7, 3761 BCE. Writers would use that date as a reference point. Roman consular dating prevailed in the West until the year 541 CE when the Emperor Justinian I stopped appointing them. The terms BC and AD were first used by a monk in about 525 CE. Its starting point was the year in which Jesus was thought to have been born. (Modern scholarship places the birth date of Jesus at 4 BCE.) Anything that happened before Year One is referred to as happening BC Before Christ. Anything after that date is said to have occurred AD Anno Domini, literally in the year of the Lord, i.e., after the birth of Jesus. The traditional way of writing BC and AD dates is to put AD in front of the date and BC after it. For example, Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC. Joan of Arc was executed in AD 1431. Now that the various cultures of the world have become intertwined, a dating system based on a particular religious view is no longer appropriate. Most writers of history have adopted the notations BCE and CE. BCE stands for Before Common Era. CE stands for Common Era. In this notation, Julius Caesar died in 44 BCE; Joan of Arc in CE 1431. The dividing date between BCE and CE is a Year One that coincides with the Consular Year One in which Gaius Caesar and Lucius Aemilius Paulus were consuls. Different dating systems are still being used in various contexts. Muslims use a calendar in which Year One corresponds to CE 622, the year in which Mohammad took his followers from Mecca to Medina. Anything before that date is referred to as BH; anything after, as AH. The H stands for the Arabic word hijra, migration. AH stands for the Latin Anno Hegirae, in the year of the Hijra. The accident took place in well known Rana Plaza where five garment factories were running with worldwide interactions. Many renowned brands were used to interact with garment factories in Bangladesh because of good quality of garments at cheaper costs. However the poor health and safety conditions are thought to be responsible of the deadliest building collapse in the history of Bangladesh (BBC News 2013). It is right to remark that it has become an alarming situation for governing bodies in order to cope the global defame and for resuming the relationships for trade and business. In near past, before the lethal c ollapse, Bangladesh remained a center of attention for international buyers because of extremely low wage rates. According to Minimum Wage Board (2010), the average wage in Bangladesh was Taka 3000/- which is extremely low as compared to contemporary market rate (Mondy and Noe et al. 2005). 2. The Accident The tragic collapse in Sawar on 24th April 2013 was one of the most astonishing historical accidents. The said plaza, situated in Sawar, Dhaka, was tremendously collapsed at 8:58 a.m on that day. The plaza building has been estimated to have 5000 workers employed in five garments factories. According to the government press release, around 1131 workers kicked the bucket in the accident and their bodies were rescued. The government spokesman further divulged that 2438 workers were rescued alive. In the collapse five garment factories, one bank, ATM booths, a market and parking lots were devastated (Mehr 2013). Rescue services were offered by Bangladesh army, Fire and civil defense services, Bangladesh Police and several volunteer welfare and nongovernmental organization. The made the injured reach to hospitals and different first aid spots according to the severity of injury. Emergency was enforced in public as well as in private hospitals at Dhaka (BBC News 2013). It has been reported that a morning before the collapse, a two inch crack was observed in ground pillars of the building. By hearing the news, several journalists of leading television channels arrived at the building. They covered the news and were lean to talk to the owner of building Sohel Rana. After the call, the owner personally came to the building and said that the crack is not dangerous. It can be managed without enforcing any emergency in the building. The peace of the building must not be disturbed. He asked the journalists not to report the news. He let out the situation of building satisfactory in all respects and went away. A local engineer visited the building and told that the condi tion is severely vulnerable; the building must be emptied immediately and should be inspected by a competent team of professional engineers (Quinn 2013). By seeing the response of the building owner, the garment factories’ owners decided to close the factories. From the next day, labors were called for strike.

Compliant in organizational requirements, employees have had the appropriate training for their roles in the organization. The cost of training staff is low, but the benefit for the whole organization is high. Hazard register A hazard register was in place, but there were no records to show what had been done to eliminate, isolate, or minimi se each identified hazards. The risk of injury is high if hazards are not being eliminated, isolated and minimi sed. The cost of compliance will vary according to hazards. There is a significant potential cost through in potential injury, there is a legal obligation to do everything practicable to provide a safe work place for employee-so hazard must be managed. Job description Health and safety were included in standard employee contracts. How to identify the hazard: a, every employer should ensure that there are in place effective methods for manage the hazard. b, systematically identifying ex sting hazards to employees at work. c, systematically identifying if possible before, and otherwise us, they arise new hazards to employees at work. d, regularly assessing each hazards identified, and determine whether or not it is a significant hazards. Strategies for the problem: develop policies and procedures, health and safety responsibilities in the job description, how we develop things to do infection control, health and safety section in the fixed contract. Promote health wellbeing in workplace, how we do that Educate staff how to handle challenge behaviour Ensure all identified hazard in organization avoided. Evacuation: natural disaster, training records, document, fires, educate staff fire procedures, ensure staff all trained in fire day. The company is small size that consists full time staffs and around 20 contracts. Due to the company is facing tough financial time and the feature of their service delivery, the strategy and corrective actions are considered as necessary and economic. Cultural difference is taken inti account, because of most of staff are from overseas and have english as a second language. A introduction training may be hold if needed. It aims to ensure all staffs receive correct and adequate information about health and safety responsibility. In addition, if the english is difficult for some overseas staff understand, a translation copy could be given, furthermore, a training record is highly recommended as an evidence should the organization s actions which follow the legislative requirements. Fashion Boutique Industry of Kathmandu

Management in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Business Administration. This proposal writing assignment was guided by our course instructor Mr.. Parka's C. Battier and with his help and my interest I selected the topic: An Overview of the Fashion Boutique Industry of Nepal. I have always been interested in fashion. When I was given this opportunity to do a project work on the interest of my choice, I had no doubt it was going to be related with the fashion industry of Nepal. The fashion industry worldwide seems to be at its glamorous eight, having its reach from New York to Paris to London and Tokyo.All over the globe the latest trends travel so fast that designers are busy making forecasts for each and every season and occasion they can think of. The modern technologies, media, and the entertainment industry have propelled fashion into new, unforeseeable heights. People everywhere are becoming more and more fashion conscious and the Naples are n ot behind. The increasing number of trendy boutiques in Nepal and almost every major street being lined up with fashion and clothing stores show there is a rising demand for high fashion among the modern Naples.The fashion industry is very lucrative and its scope is unlimited. Nepal, being such a culturally and naturally diverse country, has a lot of inspiration for the fashion industry. If this diversity can be converted into creativity and be sustainable entrenched in the fashion industry of Nepal through the fashion boutiques, this industry would ultimately have a very unique image, so much so that Nepal should also consider it as a potential forte. To understand the current Naples fashion boutiques industry and see the area of potential in it, who better to ask than boutique owners?These are the people who are in the industry; who know about fashion, designs, and trends ultimately shaping the Naples fashion industry into new forms. They are the people who are learning about what is happening in the industry right now and what will or should happen in the future of the fashion industry of Nepal. So, I have decided to survey the boutique owners of the Splendor area of Paten since that seems to be the centre point of the boutique industry of Katmandu valley. With this research, I hope to understand the current market of fashion boutiques in Nepal and discover its constraints as well as potential scope.I have always been fascinated by the fashion industry. It is a mixture of art, pop culture, ideas and creativity. The fashion industries everywhere in the world are on new levels while the Naples fashion industry is still in its infancy. One of the major components of the total fashion industry of Nepal is the fashion boutique industry. Being a business student, I see considerable scope in this industry since it has a constantly growing market and it has the ability to revive itself with the changing times because of the creativity of the designers involved.I ch ose to research about he fashion boutique industry to see where the boutiques stand in the Naples fashion industry at the moment, to examine the constraints imposed for its growth and to assess its possible scope. As a result, I want to find out whether there is a possibility that it will stand and even compete in the same level with the imported ready-to-wear industry of Nepal in the future. The questions that I would like to address in this study are: 1. What is the current state of fashion boutique industry in Nepal? 2. Gone are the days where clothes were only used to hide your body or protect it. These days, clothing and style plays a huge role in peoples' lives. Every day, we see hundreds of people. Whether we see them on the street, at work, at school, or on television, people pass through our visual field. It may be intentional or unintentional but we form opinions about people based on their style of dress.This study will be useful in understanding the current state of fashion boutique industry of Nepal. It will help to determine, as well as, understand the obstacles and constraints faced by the boutique owners of Nepal. It will even help to understand about t he state of mind of the Naples in terms of the connection between fashion and boutiques, and also about the influences of international fashion in Nepal. With the completion of this research, areas of potential or scope of the boutique industry or where this industry should be heading will be clear and the possibility of generation of market in fashion will be illustrated.This research will be helpful to anyone who wants a glimpse of the fashion boutique industry of Nepal. It will also be helpful to those people who will want to go in the boutique industry in the future, for creative or business purposes, as the project will illuminate where this industry is heading. 1. 5. Limitations of the study This study is not absolutely free from limitations; the limitations that may be observed are as follows: a. Since the study use primary and secondary data in order to prepare report, the data collection might be influenced by social crisis and personal influence of the data collector. . As the study is to be conducted by the students themselves, many opportunities to conduct a detailed market research may e lost due to budget and time constraints. C. The primary data used in this research will be from only a random sample of boutiques, which may not reflect the opinions of the boutique owners of the entire industry. D. The secondary data used in this research is limited as no such research has been done in Nepal in the past. E. The study may lack exact information because it is based on the opinions and information provided by the surveyed boutique owners. F.Certain information may be based on approximation. G. Many of the respondents may not answer the questions provided in the questionnaire. Fashion, design and clothing can incorporate a wide range of different activities: These days, almost everything is related to fashion, from cars to architecture to stationery (AS Consultation y Formica ¶n, 2008). However, in this report, when we refer to the fashion sector w e will be using the term in its most traditional sense – as the original fashion sector that has expanded to incorporate other parts of our life – the clothing sector and fashion in terms of the way people dress.Apparel products are typically classified into broad categories, such as basic commodity products (knit underwear and socks), fashion-basic products (dress shirts, casual slacks, and knit sportswear), â€Å"better† fashion (moderately priced dresses and suits), â€Å"bridge† fashions (higher priced ready-to-wear fashion products), designer collections (high quality and expensive ready-to-wear fashion products) and custom-made haute couture (Abernathy, et al. , 1999).These fashion categories are often portrayed in a â€Å"fashion pyramid† in which products are arrayed according to factors such as fashion content, length of product life cycle, quality, and price (see Figure 1). The boutiques of Nepal fall in the category of Better Fashions or Bridge Fashion collections.A boutique is a small shopping outlet, especially one that specializes in elite and fashionable items such as clothing and Jewelry. In terms of Nepal, boutiques are a small shopping outlets specializing in fashionable ready-to wear items, as well as a home to the boutique owner's creations. Dozens of boutiques and fashion designing companies lining up from Bagman Bridge to Himalayan Hotel in Expandable is enough to indicate that fashion has already grown up as an entrepreneurship in Katmandu. Youth have started to see a good prospect in fashion as entrepreneurship.National Institute of Art and Fashion Designing, India Education Center, Unman College of Fashion Technology, Alkaloid Institute of Fashion Designing and Lord Buddha Education Foundation are some of the institute offering fashion education in Nepal. The scene in the Nepal fashion industry is not quite bleak indeed. Fashion boutiques are growing in Katmandu and in other cities like Dharma, Pokka, Butyl, and Bipartisan, too (Timpanist, 2009). Small fashion boutiques remain to have certain advantages over larger retail formats.It is found that find that small fashion boutiques excel in relational marketing and store branding. Small boutiques operators invest their effort in relational marketing by developing friendship with a group of core customers and supplying accurate fashion information to all customers. Although small fashion retailers cannot afford to have specialized marketing staff or a budget for mass media advertisements, their mall size put them in a position to develop relational marketing with their customers much more thoroughly and deeply than large fashion retailers.Also, small fashion boutiques effective ly gain store brand equity through flexible visual merchandising and cultivating a charismatic image for the operator. (Chew, 2009) The marketing of boutique follows the conventional marketing patterns, which is dependent on selection of venue of the outlets and the product mix (designs and sizes), as well as the promotional strategy. Furthermore, the boutique owner has to marketing techniques like: -Displaying and distributing it as proper places Usage of electronic media: I. E. Rejection of the boutique in fashion programs, advertisement on television, and provision of dresses to various television plays and films. -Even arrangement: like fashion shows and photo-shoots Moreover, in order to keep abreast with the emerging trends and client tastes, surveys regarding customer satisfaction/needs should be regular feature of the project. As this project deals in designer women wear, therefore the product mix will comprise of different styles of the female dresses in different sizes. Fa shion is in an era of change driven by designers, consumers and brands.The fashion industry today, in Nepal like in India, is a mixture of influences due to globalization resulting in a shift in the socio-cultural, economic, demographic and cryptographic make up of the country; these directly and indirectly have an impact on fashion (Insight Inshore, 2011). From the many fashion schools, institutes and other small scale institutes, there has been a birth of a new breed of experimental designers with no reservations about any mode of self expression. There is a rise of new target groups across the diverse sub-continent.Further, there is an increased awareness of fashion accelerated by advances in technology and media proliferation (Insight Inshore, 2011). Boutiques currently have a high potential market, but something missing. There is a shallow awareness of diverse target segments; there isn't an in-depth understanding to identify diverse requirements & new segments. There is an abi lity to predict the effect of regular media influences on existing target groups, dependence on western trend adaptations; there isn't an ability to forecast fashion adaptations across a diverse map (Insight Inshore, 2011).There is a traditional static, consumer-research eased approach to design & strategy; there isn't a dynamic approach driven by an understanding of trends, and shoppers along with traditional consumer research. There is mostly independent design and business strategies; there isn't a cohesive design and business strategy that is borne out of trend, consumer & shopper research. 1. 7 Conceptual framework In Nepal, small fashion boutiques that provide its clients with custom-made as well as ready-made innovative designs of clothing.They are becoming increasingly popular, as seen by their presence in every major street of the Katmandu valley. It is essential to analyze their current state so that the future or scope of the boutique industry can be accurately predicted. From the current state, the future of this industry can be illuminated by exploring the opportunities of this industry such as changes in the socio-economy of the country, finding particular areas of expertise or niche, and expanding resource base. But the growth of the industry is hindered to a certain extent by factors such as competition, regulations of governments, and the political scenario of the country.All this is illustrated in the framework above. 1. 8 Research Methods 1. 8. 1 Study Area The study was conducted by surveyi ng the boutique owners of Katmandu valley, primarily of the Splendor area of Paten. The boutiques were randomly selected and surveyed. I chose this particular location for my study because it is one of the thriving places for boutiques and fashion in Nepal right now, as seen with the entire road being lined up with boutiques on either side. 1. 8. 2 Research Design The main purpose of this study is to give more information about fashion industry of Nepal.Hence, with the help of this study, we come to know about the current state of fashion boutique industry and find its potential scope that is very important for the people who have an interest in this industry, for personal or professional purposes. Therefore, the research design is descriptive in nature. 1. 8. 3 Nature and Source of Data Both primary and secondary data were used for the study. Since the study use both sources of information, both qualitative and quantitative data were utilized for the study. To get information on th is study about the current state of fashion boutique industry, various published articles were used.And in order to learn about the future scope of the fashion industry and current market as well, primary data was viewed. Primary data was collected from the randomly selected boutique owners of Splendor and secondary data and information was collected from various published articles and reports, though very little secondary data was used. 1. 8. 4 Data Collection Techniques The structured questionnaire was used to collect the primary data for the study is attached in Annex 2. A set of structured questionnaire was developed to conduct interviews with owners of fashion boutiques.All the information that includes the current market, constraints and scope of the fashion industry was asked with the help of the closed questionnaire. For the sampling procedure, 20 boutiques were elected and the owners of those boutiques were asked questions about their understandings and opinions of the bout ique and fashion industry of Nepal. The convenience sampling technique was made use of in the study area. 1. 8. 5 Data Analysis and Report Writing All the collected data has been properly processed by entering the collected data in the computer software SIPS.In SIPS, through the use of various mathematical and statistical tools, the collected data has been refined and analyzed. Different tables, charts, diagrams and graphs have been used as applicable. All these findings have en presented well in the summer project report. CHAPTER – II DATA ANALYSIS AND MAJOR FINDINGS This chapter is the heart of the report. The questionnaires filled by participants are tabulated and analyzed in order to come closer to our objectives. That very analysis is mainly presented in this chapter with the help of figures and charts.Questionnaire brief 20 boutique owners of Splendor had filled out the questionnaire (prototype in Annex) I had provided them with. Below, the answers provided by them are analyzed in order to understand the fashion boutique industry of Nepal and explore its scopes and threats. Note: The words â€Å"boutique owner† and â€Å"designer† are used interchangeably as in case of this report, they both are the same person. In some of the charts and graphs, the total response has come to more than 20 because some respondents have treated the question as multi-response questions.Data Presentation and Analysis 1 . Current state of fashion boutique industry The current state of the boutique fashion industry largely depends on the character, nature, and skill levels of the ones who control the industry I. E. The boutique owners. Presented below is a graph illustrating the basic demography (education level and ender) of those very owners. Figure 1: Education and gender of boutique owners Field study, 2011 As we can see here, 90% of the boutique owners are female while only 10% of them are male.This isn't a big surprise because it is usually women who are more interested in fashion and trends in general in most societies. Also, all of the owners have completed their bachelor level and some have even achieved their masters' degree. From the surveys filled out by them, it is seen that all of them have done some kind of course or training related to fashion or design such as Diploma in Fashion Designing, Bachelor in Fashion Design, etc. Some have even gone abroad for their trainings, such as Sunlit Martha Sahara, owner of Jaeger who studied in Metro Design Institute of North Carolina, USA.We can clearly see from the study that currently, all the boutique owners of Katmandu are highly trained professionals with extensive knowledge and training in their fields. 1. 1 Purpose When the boutique owners were asked why they had decided to open a boutique and Join the industry, the results were as follows: Figure 2: Purpose of opening boutiques A staggering 90% of the boutique owners claim to have opened a boutique because hey have a passio n for designing and creating new things.Only 10% have chosen this field for other reasons. In the questionnaire, these 10% of the owners have mentioned that they chose this field because they wanted to â€Å"earn money with [their] creativity and skills that [they] possessed as designers†. We see that most boutique owners have chosen to be in this field because they followed their heart. Position Paper Garrett Kaufmann ISSUES AND CONTROVERSIES ON FILE Citizenship 2nd Period â€Å"Gun Control† Due 1/14/2013 May 29, 1998 Pages 225-233 I strongly believe that our right to keep and bear arms that was given to us as American citizens in the second amendment of the constitution should be upheld and gun control is not the answer to stopping gun violence.A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. – The Second Amendment. Our nations’ forefathers gave us this right when they signed the constitution of the United States of America September 17, 1787. Although there has been debate over the wording of the amendment and whether it actually means every individual person or only people who belong to a state-regulated militia.I think it is obvious that they meant each individual person. In a December 1989 article in the Yale Law Journal, titled ‘The Embarra ssing second amendment’ by scholar Sanford Levinson, a liberal democrat who supports gun control said that â€Å"The second amendment was clearly written to give all citizens, not merely trained soldiers belonging to a militia the right to keep firearms†. Other scholars agreed and noted that in 1792 congress actually passed a militia low to mandate every able-bodied man to arm himself with a musket.The Brady Act is a controversial law which was signed by President Clinton in 1993 and that took effect in 1994 (named for President Reagan’s press secretary who was paralyzed when shot in a 1981 assassination attempt on the president) which requires prospective gun buyers to wait 5 days before they can buy a gun while local law enforcement officials do a background check to make sure anyone who is prohibited from owning a firearm such as convicted felons, minors, druggies or illegal immigrants can’t buy a gun.Although gun control advocates say that laws such a s this one are responsible for a drop in gun fatalities and violent crime Tania Metaska , executive director for the National Rifle Association (NRA) rejects this claim and says violent crime began to decline before 1993 and that the background checks and waiting periods are â€Å"Irrelevant to criminals since the vast majority of felons obtain firearms on the black market or through theft, not through dealers affected by the Brady law†.The Supreme Court agreed that the Brady Bill wasn’t the answer when they overturned major portions of the law in the 1997 case â€Å"Printz vs US† when they said the law infringed on state sovereignity rights and it put an unfair burden on local officials. The NRA and other gun-rights groups contend that it is not the Brady law that has helped to spark a nationwide decline in crime but ‘Right to Carry’ or the passing of concealed weapons laws in many states. Florida began the national trend towards more permissive co ncealed weapon laws in 1987 and since then 30 other states have followed.Florida’s â€Å"Shall Issue† law requires law enforcement officials to immediately issue permits to any eligible applicant, eligible meaning that they don’t have a criminal record or history of serious mental illness. Gun-right advocates say these types of laws are necessary because people need to be able to protect themselves from a high crime rate, a legal system that can’t deep criminals in jail and the lack of resources or manpower of law enforcement to protect them.In surveys of convicted felons, criminals admit that they target victims that they believe to be unarmed and avoid those who might have weapons. A study done between 1977 and 1994 by two researchers at the University of Chicago found much lower crime rates in Illinois counties that allowed concealed weapons, and that murder rates dropped 8. 5%, rapes 5% and aggravated assaults by 7%. In May 1998 15 year old Kip Kinkle fatally shot both his parents then took 3 guns to Thurston High School in Springfield, OR. here he shot 24 students, killing 2 of them. One Month later in Jonesboro, Arkansas two boys were arrested for fatally shooting 5 people and wounding 10 others. Then of course there was the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary just this last December when 20 year old Adam Lanza shot his mom dead then went to the school and shot and killed 26 people, most of them little kids. School shootings are a horrible tragedy and they only give gun-control groups more ‘ammunition’ for their argument.I guess I can see their point but I agree with the gun rights advocates when they say it is a mistake to blame guns for all the school shooting. I agree with the saying ‘Guns don’t kill people- people kill people’. I think the people that do these things are sick in the head and that they need mental help and would still probably find a way to hurt people even if they didnâ€℠¢t have access to guns. I’m sure it’s gone up some since this article was written but studies have shown that violence in our nations’ schools is actually pretty rare.A March 1998 White House study found only 10% of all schools reported serious violence. I don’t really feel that I need to carry a gun to protect myself here where I live but if I did live in a big city I would definitely what to have the right to carry a gun to protect myself and my family. But I do love to hunt and I own 5 guns for that purpose. My dad has taught me about gun safety since I was a little kid. I have been through required gun safety training which I think is a good thing.The article states that in many rural areas of our country guns are not regarded by many as an evil, but simply as part of a way of life. In those regions, hunting is a popular sport and learning how to use a gun is often a rite of passage for many young boys and girls. Guns are treated with pride and respec t and gun safety is a paramount concern. Because many young people in those regions are exposed to guns at an early age and trained to use them safely, they are much more likely to understand the risks of guns and treat them properly.
